Saying the Wrong Thing is Like Opening Pandora's Box

Have you ever said something to a prospect you completely regret and the next thing you know you're concentrating on what you did wrong and the rest of the conversation goes Right...Down...the Drain?

There's no doubt that saying the wrong thing to your prospect can be like opening Pandora's box. And, you wouldn't want to do that, unless you like wasting your time. I know I wouldn't.

A few days ago, I did just that and instead of hanging up, I stuck it out. BIG MISTAKE!!!!

Here's kind of how it went...

Me: Hey Bob, this is Jerome, recently you visited my website and requested information about a home business. Did I catch you at a good time?

Bob: What do you want?

Me: Bob, you requested information about working from home.

Bob: Yeah, so what? Why are you calling me?

Me: Uhhh, do you want to know more about working from home. I can send you some material.

I'm going to stop there, as that's where I went wrong. I kept choking on my words and no matter what I would say, I kept thinking about what I said in the past and what I should've said.

I failed to stay in control and show this person they most definitely did not qualify for my time nor would I want them in my business.

Here's what I should've said...

Me: Yeah, Bob, you requested some information from website about a home business. Bob, before we proceed, are you interested in a home business so that we don't waste my time?

If I would've said that instead, I would have been the one in control and show this person, I'm serious about my business.

Believe me, when I made that mistake, it was like when I first started...no control, desperate, you name it.

After I acknowledged where I went wrong, I realized I didn't want to go there again. Besides, it wasn't helping me any with growing my business.

Becareful the next time you're talking to your prospect and be sure you don't say the wrong thing. If you do, immediately get back in control of the conversation. Then you'll be able to proceed with the interview.

Antiquated Recruiting Techniques are for Losers

No offense to those who enjoy recruiting via the old methods like, bugging family and friends, constantly hounding them to join your business. If it has worked for you, Congrats and you won't have to read one more word of this post.

However, if you're like some of us, then you've realized the antiquated techniques just don't work like they use to and it's TIME FOR A CHANGE!!!

For majority of my business, I was running under that model. I was the "I need to get this person signed up or I'll never make it" or "If I can just get one of my relatives to join me, I'll be set." Come on!!! It just wasn't working for me and I wasn't having fun. One good thing about this technique is I was pushing the envelope. I was going to a place I had never gone before and that was, "Family and friends, I desperately need your help." It was a good experience and that's all it was.

So, I began the journey of searching for ways to become a recruiting magnet and that's when I discovered Mike Dillard. Mike showed me that being a leader in this industry is rare and if you want to make it, you'll need to become a master leader.

I can honestly say, thank you Mike. It's helped me open my eyes to a whole new world. Ever since then, I've been working on increasing my value. I've read books upon books, practiced implementing the ones that worked and even created some of my own like my Building Your M.L.M Business System.

But, when it came to recruiting, I only had what my upline provided me, which I'm extremely grateful for. But, I realized I was missing something and I needed more.

Now, over time, I've tested numerous techniques, and some I still use today and for the others that weren't working I just said to hell with them.

That's when I realized I needed to look back to my friend Mike Dillard. At the time, he was developing Black Belt Recruiting with Mark Wieser, the master of MLM recruiting. Shortly after the release of the course, I snagged it up and couldn't believe how POWERFUL this course was. It reminded me that I needed to be the one in charge leading my prospects through the process and I was the one people would want to have as a leader. I was becoming MAGNETIC!!!

This course was certainly not focusing on the antiquated recruiting techniques, it teaches you how to position yourself as the leader. There were some awesome examples of what you are not supposed to do and they were the ones I was doing. Mike Dillard and Mark Wieser knew something. They knew how to handle recruiting the right way so that we can become a recruiting magnet and share that same philosophy with the people we recruited by using the power of leverage.

So, if you've realized that the antiquated recruiting techniques are no longer for you, then you OWE it to yourself to check out Black Belt Recruting. In fact, Mike Dillard and Mark Wieser where so generous to provide us with some killer FREE videos about recruiting, you'll not want to miss.

Do yourself favor, if you haven't already, learn to become a recruiting magnet.

Head on over to Black Belt Recruiting and pick up your FREE videos now by clicking here!

Until next time.

F.E.A.R, Is it Holding You Back

You've heard what FEAR stands for, right?

If you haven't, it stands for False Evidence Appearing Real. There are other acronyms too, but this one says it all. It says, we are afraid of something that has not happened. Artemis Limpert once said, when we imagine fear, we are actually using our imagination against ourselves.

Now, why in the world would we be doing this if we knew that it would be holding us back. Well, there are many reasons but from my personal experience, this one really hits home for me.

And, that is the 'what ifs'. So...

what if I have too much on my plate, will I fail?
what if I can't train my partners to become leaders?
what if I can't sign up a customer?
what if I become successful, what will I do?

When I use to concentrate on the 'what ifs' I was using my imagination against myself because none of these had happened yet. But, you could bet I would eventually experience them if that's what I was constantly concentrating on.

Now, what do you do if you are faced with FEAR... Fear of failure, fear of success, or fear of the unknown. Well, trying using the acronym I created to nip FEAR in the bud. I call it S.T.A.R.T. and it stands for...

Stop
Take a break
Acknowledge
Realize it's not real
Take control

Stop means don't do one more thing to bring this fear on.
Take a break from what you are doing to switch your concentration off the fear subject.
Acknowledge why you are currently experiencing this feeling.
Realize it's not real says it all in of itself.
Take control means you are in control of what it is to become and don't let fear be one of them.

The next time you are starting to feel FEAR enter in your life and business, then use S.T.A.R.T. When you do this, you'll find yourself concentrating more on the things that you do want and doing the necessary things to bring them to a reality.

Don't let FEAR hold you back.

How Gift Baskets Can Grow Your Business

Would you like to grow your business with little effort as possible?

Well, with the holiday's nearing, this is an ideal time to take advantage of drawing in new customers. With so many gift ideas out there today, is your gift helping your business grow?

If it isn't, then you most definitely need to consider gift baskets.

Gift baskets are such an easy way of promoting your product. Just choose a theme from your company's product and assemble them in a nice basket. And, if you're not into gift baskets, then you can get someone to assemble them for you so that your time will be freed up to work on other areas of your business.

Now, back to the theme. Let's say your company offers skin care products. Well, your theme can be a "Spa Care Package". Just grab a few of the skin care products, a bottle of water, a gift certificate for a massage and you got your basket ready to go.

Not only will your basket be the ideal gift but, it will also get your business the exposure it needs for very little effort.

Feel the Need for Speed

With troubling times come great opportunities.

Unfortunately, most fail to see this because they are inundated with of all the negative press coverage.

It's a shame people have to be subjected to that negative news. They need news that is uplifting and inspiring them to make a difference. I just know if they knew what we know, they would do the same thing we are doing, growing our home business.

And, luckily for us network marketers we know that we need to take control of our lives and our businesses.

Us leaders do that everyday by working on expanding our business by:

  • Recruiting and training new distributors
  • Enrolling new customers
  • And, increasing our value

It's time you feel the need for speed and kick your MLM business into over gear. Stop kicking tires and making excuses like, "Oh, I'll do it tomorrow" or "I just don't feel like it today."

Forget that nonsense! If you feel like that on a constant basis, do yourself a favor and get out of this industry right away and return to Corporate America.

But if you want to make a change, it's time to reach out and make a difference. With so many people being affected by the bad times of the economy, it's NOW a perfect time to reach out to those who are looking for a new vehicle to accumulate wealth.

Why NOW? Because if you don't work on getting these people into your business making you and them money, that's one more day of suffering these people have to go through.

Have you thought that you might be that special someone? But, you will never know for sure unless YOU Take Action.

Start by increasing your value and learning about being a leader.

If you want to become magnetic, because that's what leaders are. It's absolutely, most importantly crucial you Feel the Need for Speed by working on building your MLM empire right NOW!

Lead and Succeed Like a CEO

Wouldn't you like to know what it would take to become a leader in your business?

Well, I recently posted an eZine article about being a leader called "Are you the Leader of the Pack" http://ezinearticles.com/?id=1670569 In this article I talk about some of the key characteristics it takes to be a leader.

And, one of the most important traits described in this article is to instill leader characteristics into your team members. This gives those serious team members the opportunity to rise above and be the CEO of their business.

Have you heard of "lead and succeed"? Well, did you know that successful CEOs of their business became that way because they pulled their leaders up? They didn't run their entire business by themselves. No, they knew by leveraging other resources that would grow their business.

Did you know that's one of the biggest secrets of millionaires? They have been doing this for over 100 years. The power of leverage will take your business to the highest levels you can ever imagine.

I was recently reading an article from Tim Sales and after reading through it, I was amazed by his command of leadership. And, this was just reading the article. Could you imagine hearing him at work with his team? Wow! I would love to be a fly on the wall when he's training his team.

You see the point I'm making here is to reach true levels of success in your home business, you must be a leader who creates leaders.

When you lead and succeed like a CEO of your business, you are putting out there characteristics people would only dream of having. Therefore, making you magnetic.

Do yourself a favor, rise above and rise your team leaders above.

It Takes Two To Tangle

How many times have you heard...

"All you need is two people to join your business..."

But, what does that really mean. If I sign-up two people and they never perform, aren't we back to square one.

Yes, we are! So, what's the whole hoopla about getting two people if they just aren't performers?

I've learned that it should probably be worded something like this instead...

"All you need is the right two people to join your business..."

There is some validity to getting two people, but they have to be the right ones. They have to be go-getters! They have to be visionaries! They have to be optimistic! They have to be ready to embark down the journey of home business ownership!

If you were to look in the mirror can you honestly say that you are all of those characteristics? Or, can you say that you would join yourself in the business if you were someone else?

If you can't answer those questions with a resounding YES, then you're back to square one.

You're starting from scratch, and in that case it's time to work on your self-image, build your team, become a leader, become magnetic, and teach others how to do the same thing. And no, it doesn't matter that your business has gone anywhere. All that matters is that you step up to plate, take a few swings and make it to first base. Then you go for the next base, then the next base, then after a while, that's when you'll be swinging for the fences. (I bet you can tell which sport I like.)

But, the fact of the matter is, if you are intending on becoming someone successful (that homerun hitter) in this industry, then now is the time.

Now imagine, you find two people that are drawn to you and you mentor them, what do you think they will do with their business?

Uhhh! I don't think I need to answer here, but I will for those that aren't catching on. They will be leaders who are performers. Why? Because when you are attracting these people to you, they had liked what they had seen. Whatever it was, your ability to lead, to be confident, to be decisive, or your ability to take control, they could see themselves following you and learning from you.

Again, Why?

BECAUSE THEY WANT TO BE JUST LIKE YOU!

It absolutely, most definitely, takes two to tangle, but with the right two.

Are you attracting the right two?

How To Generate Traffic and Make Your Upline Jealous

Wouldn't you like to know what it would take to generate an endless stream of traffic to your business opportunity site?

What if I told you there was a way?

Would you be interested?

I would hope so, because I know I would be.

And, it all starts with one of the most powerful internet marketing tools. I think you've heard of them before, Google, Google Adwords.

No matter what anyone will tell you, Google Adwords will drive so much traffic to your website, if you know what you're doing. If you want immediate results, then this is the way for you.

Now the other methods work, like SEO, but they take time. They don't happen overnight.

So, if you don't have time and want quick results, Google Adwords is definitely the way to go.

Now, if you're like most entrepreneurs that get involved in Google Adwords without an ounce of know how, they will soon find themselves deep in debt.

There are two major components you need in order to avoid being classified into the failures of Google's Adwords.

1. Learn how to write good, quality ads that give you results. The best book to get you started is Ultimate Guide to Google AdWords (Ultimate Guide to Google Adwords) here at Amazon. It will teach you the dos and the don'ts of Google Adwords. This is critical to your success as the concepts shared in this book will get you the results you will be looking for rather than the old trial error routine.

2. Capitalize on your traffic. Intend to turn your traffic into either customers or business partners. And how you do that is by providing free upfront material for the person to review. Then it's hook, line, and sinker.

If you can follow these two components and by no means are they the only important pieces of information, but they are major pieces to the puzzle when it comes to doing it right, you'll be on the track to success.

You will be so far ahead of everyone else, they won't even see the smoke that follows behind you.

When you're generating traffic to your site and turning those people into customers or business partners, everyone, including your upline, will be wondering what you are doing and how they can get involved.

Now that's being magnetic!!!

If you haven't tried Google Adwords yet, don't until you have followed the two components mentioned in this article.

What Does Being Magnetic Have Anything To Do With It

There once was a story about a man, who could only concentrate on the things he did not want.

He concentrated on debt, but more debt came to him.
He concentrated on not losing his job, but lost his job anyhow.
He concentrated on staying away from the bad crowd, but the bad kept coming to him.

What the man really wanted to happen was the complete opposite. All he wanted was to change, but he could not. He was like a big magnet attracting in all the wrong things.

It's the same with your home business. If you're constantly thinking of not succeeding, than your wish shall come true.

But, being magnetic in a positive way can have an altering affect on your success. And, when you are being magnetic in this way, you're attracting the things you want to happen.

You're concentrating on being a leader.
You're concentrating on becoming successful.
You're concentrating on accumulating wealth.
You're concentrating on growing your business.

You're concentrating on all of the right things to move you forward rather than holding you back.

Being magnetic has everything to do with your success.

Is the Social Marketing Arena for You

With all of the social marketing sites out there today, how do you know which one is the best one to use?

Do you just try them all or do you only do one?

Yes and No. But more No than anything. Let me explain.

In your business, you want to be able to create some interest in you and your business. So, in order to do that you have to start building a name for yourself. One of the best ways to do that is using the social marketing arena. But, I do not recommend that you go and create 10 different accounts on various social marketing sites. Can you imagine how much effort it would require to maintain 10 different social marketing profiles? Forget it, it's not worth your time. And time is the most precious element in your business. So, don't go wasting it.

No thank you!

Because you want to provide quality, this is why you should only concentrate on a few. Use social marketing sites like Twitter.com where you can follow others and be followed. For my Twitter account, JeromeRatliff, I follow a lot of people. People I find interesting, want to hear more about them and what they are doing. But, what's more important is that people follow me. Why? Because I want my content to come to me.

There are two areas to my postings. I bring a lot of focus on my normal life (things everybody does everyday) and the things I do to grow my business.

When I do this, people are drawn in like a magnet. Kind of the same for the people that I follow.

When you draw the people in, then you can begin building rapport. Then after you build rapport, you establish a way people can either buy into your service or you and your business. Now, don't be pushy because no one likes a pushy salesperson. Just be yourself and let the power of attraction marketing take over.

So, is the social marketing arena for you? It should be. Start today by visiting me on Twitter, my profile name is JeromeRatliff and I will see you on the inside.

Some Will, Some Won't, So What

Does anyone really know what that phrase means?

Well, I will tell you how I interpret it. It means some will like your business, some will not, but does it really matter. It absolutely doesn't matter?

Here's why...

In this industry, what is fundamental is that we are always sorting. As leaders, we are not interested in tire-kickers. We are looking for that right person to build our business with and someone who is interested in doing the same for their business. So what just means don't worry or concentrate on someone turning you down, just keep moving forward as you look and find that right person.

I once heard a story of a successful entrepreneur and it goes like this...

Joe, a new entrepreneur had been his business for 3 months and wasn't seeing any growth in his business. It was like he was standing still. So, he decided it was time for a change. He worked with lead after lead, getting rejected one after another. Joe was getting fed up with the rejection. Finally, he started getting enrollments into his business and before you knew it, he had signed up 45 people in 1 years period. But, when that year was up, his business began to decrease in commission. So, Joe decided he needed to recruit a little more. Another year went by and Joe had increased his organization to 90 people. Sure his commission increased, but not by double as it should have. Joe wasn't sure what was going on. That's when Joe remembered back to when he started hearing the phrase, some will, some won't, so, so what. It dawned on him why he was not sustaining growth. When Joe first started, he had gotten turned down so many times that he would enroll anyone just to get someone into his business. Sure, that increased his numbers, but these people felt pressured into the business the really did not want to be a part of. They started to drop like flies. Joe wasn't being a leader. The moment Joe realized this, Joe completely turned around his business. But, this time Joe was only enrolling a few people a month, tops. But this time his commission was nearly doubling. Joe started leading his team, providing them training, systems to follow, and one-on-one coaching. Joe's business was thriving and before he knew it, Joe was able to walk away from his business in 5 years just because Joe realized and started over.

It's never too late to start over. Just make sure to remember that phrase, "Some will, Some won't, So what" now that you really know what it means.

When Prospecting Really Matters

As an active business owner, one of the important pieces to a successful business is the ability to properly prospect people for your business.

The caveat to that is, you may know what you are doing when it comes to prospecting, but are you missing a critical part to the process?

Does prospecting really matter if you aren't thoroughly working through it?

This is what it comes down to, while prospecting you need to ensure you are 'closing'.

Here is how the process should go:

1. Prospect people or be approached, either through the use of attraction marketing or your ability to generate leads.

2. Approach them or be approached. Something drew them to you, either your good attitude, your ability to lead, good business sense, or your past successful experience.

3. Qualify them by determining what it is they want, and find their motivating factor (watch out for this, if you miss it, it could be a deal-breaker)

4. Close. This all comes down to, "Are you ready to move on?" (don't mess up by not asking, otherwise, the person will not take you seriously and you will never know if they are ready)

These steps need to be followed in the order specified above. Otherwise, the process will be rather useless. Can you imagine if you dropped right into the close?

"So, are you ready to join?" The reply, "Huh!"

They don't even know what you are talking about! That why the the order must be executed properly.

Oh, and if you really want to learn how to successfully work this process, here's the best advice I can give you... Just Do It!

The more you go through the process the better you will become.

So what if you are afraid.

So what if you are not experienced.

Your success will be determined by you doing. Unfortunately, there is no other way. If you intend on staying in this business, then face your weaknesses head-on.

Only then will you get better at them.

Thank You, Thank You Very Much

I think Elvis Presley said it the best, but nonetheless it's a powerful statement.

Has there ever been a time in your profession where you were struggling and you needed assistance? Either you couldn't figure something out or you didn't have enough time to get something done. Then out the blue you were blessed with someone wanting to help you.

This recently happened to me. I was continuously facing problem after problem. I had this look on my face like, "Help me! Help me!" No matter what I would do, I was getting buried deep into my work. My business was getting backed up.

And, to my surprise, I was approached by a willing friend. They were an answer to my prayers. I thought I was never going to make it.

Later on I asked that person, "Why did you help me? How did you know I needed help?"

They told me that they can tell how I was acting. I was short with people, I sounded irritated and confused. They knew I wasn't myself. Once they sensed that, they came to the rescue.

But, here's the great part. They said they helped me because I had done the same thing for them in the past. The funny part is when I initially helped that person, I didn't realize I was going to get something back in return. I was most definitely not counting on it. That's just the kind of person I am. I am always willing to help people.

Take my USANA team for example. They are currently struggling in their business and not sure what to do. Because I'm leader, I am always helping my team work through their issues, and help them prepare for their future. It's an ongoing responsibility that I feel is necessary for anyone on my team.

Am I getting anything back in return?

Yes and no.

I am not getting anything back right away, but, over time I will. Because I decided to take the time to mentor my team upfront, I am instilling good quality values in my team so they can do the same for their team.

The next time someone helps you, thank them by saying, "Thank you!" Then, the next team you see someone struggling, ask how you can help. It will be one of the most rewarding things you can do.

Business and Health, Do You Got It?

Do you want to free yourself from pain and illnesses in order to have a constant stream of energy? Do you want to perform at optimal levels in your business or profession?

Just like you watch how you perform in your business, you should also watch what you put in your body. Did you know that successful business professionals like, Brian Tracy, Anthony Robbins, Bill Phillips, etc. take their health very seriously. They consider their health a regular part of their of life.

For my entire college and adult life, I lived a life of being physcially fit. But, I neglected to take health and what I was eating very seriously. As a result, towards the end of the day I would crash. And, crash I did, fast. I found myself so exhausted that I couldn't do anything, especially spending time with my family and running my business.

That's when I realized I need to watch what I'm putting into my body. I immediately started this program called RESET. It cleansed me of all of the artificial, fatty foods that were not good for me. Shortly after the program, I began a 90 day physical work out program called P90x. By my 30th day, I saw a noticeable difference. I had more energy, I was able to run my business, and spend time with my family without nodding off. RESET has transformed me and put me on the path of living a healthy lifestyle. I am happy to report that in 90 days of the program, I lost 45 lbs. That was 1 year ago. Since then, I have not gained one pound and I'm proud of it.

Are you living your business and life following a healthy lifestyle? Watch this program about RESET, where you will hear true stories of people just like you and I who have changed their lives.

Back From Salt Lake City 2008 Int'l Convention

Now that I've had more than a week to settle down from my trip to Salt Lake City and download my pictures, I wanted to share them with you. This was opening day to the convention. It was a perfect day, sunny and mid-80 degrees.

We also had the opportunity to attend a concert held by the company. They had Grammy award winner Colin Raye perform. He did a fantastic job and made it an enjoyable experience. These are some of the people that attended this concert.

I had a wonderful time and learned new techniques to grow my business. In fact, I had a chance to meet some of the top Business Entrepreneurs like, Robert Kiyosaki, Robert Allen and Tim Sales. I was even able to get a picture with Tim Sales, what a brilliant man. That probably explains why he came up with Brilliant Compensation. Here I am with Tim.

I've had the luxury to attend past conventions, but this years was unforgettable. They really stepped it up.

Since this is only a yearly event, I tend forget how powerful attending these yearly conventions can be for your business. It really recharges your business.

Whatever organization / industry you are a part of, make sure to attend your convention, it will change you and your business.

I hope you enjoy the pictures.

Reset Your Life

Did you know what you put into your body can impact how you feel and act?

Foods high in fat...
Alcoholic beverages, soda, high in sugar drinks...
Etc...

Each of these can trigger different emotions. Emotions that are filled with aggression, unhappiness, and frustration. So, it's especially important that you watch what you put into your body. So, what can one person do?

"Reset Your Life!"

Declare that you will stop these bad habits, and incorporate good habits that trigger good, positive responses. When you watch what you consume, you trigger these positive feelings. At the same time, you stimulate your mind.

This is the same for your career or your business. If you notice you aren't getting the results you want, you "reset." You take a step back and acknowledge that things aren't working and it's time for a change. A change for the better.

Stop Stressing Out Over Work

  • E-mails piling up?
  • Behind on voice mails?
  • In meetings all day long?
  • Not enough time in the day to get your work done?

This sounds like your typical worker or business owner, doesn't it!

Why do we do this to ourselves? Is it because we love our jobs / business so much that we put ourselves under these crazy amounts of stress in hope of getting some work done? Or do we hope that by participating and overextending ourselves that we will make a name for ourselves?

Whatever it is for you, there is a reason. But, does it actually help your professional career / business one bit?

No WAY!

By getting backlogged, you become less productive and more stressed.

We really need to stop stressing out over our work and relax.

It's not worth it to be stressed. Stress has been linked to many diseases, such as cancer. The next time we find ourselves stressed out and behind in work, try doing the following:

1. Relax and take deep breath. (This is the reality check moment)
2. Prioritize your list. (This is the planning moment)
3. Do what you can in the order. (This is the execution moment)

Slowly but surely you will get caught up and will become less stressed. Sure, you will get stressed again, but what you decide to do when you begin to feel stressed is what really matters. Don't let stress take over your life.

Stop stressing out over work! If you don't, you will always be stressed and will never be happy with what you do.

Since we spend half of our awake hours working, why not make it a good experience.

Dedicated to your success,

Technology, Can It Hurt You or Help You?

The wonders of technology...

So many of us by now are familiar and inundated with technology; emails, internet, cell phones, Blackberry, etc.

But, do they really help or hurt us?

Let's discuss why they can hurt us...

Emails, internet, Blackberry can really suck up a lot of our time. Sometimes, we can actually spend our entire day reading emails. Can you imagine how much work we would be able to get done if all of our time was spent in emails? No thank you. Been there, done that.

Also, with technology we find ourselves with too much information. Having too much information to choose from can make decision making rather a difficult task.

Let's discuss how they can help us...

The Convenience Factor!

Technology allows us to do our work and do it effectively by leveraging these tools. If we need to contact someone and it doesn't need to be very formal, this can all be done by sending a email. Also, if we are searching for a particular topic like n.etwork marketing or web development, we can go right on the internet and perform a search from any of the popular search engines. Wow, technology is so wonderful.

Basically, what it all comes down to is managing and limiting. So that technology does not hurt us, we limit the amount of time spent on the internet and dedicate time, on a daily basis for reading and replying to emails.

This will help us so that we can concentrate on projects, tasks, etc. that need to be completed.

Don't let technology hurt you. Use it to your advantage.

Dedicated to your success,

Get Inspired To Do Something Great

Do you find yourself having a hard time getting inspired in life, in your job or your business?

Before you get alarmed, I assure you this a normal feeling. Most people have either felt this way before or are currently feeling this way.

Let's face it, sometimes it's hard to get inspired.

I recently discovered this article about getting inspired from Entrepreneur.com, about Jim McCann, founder of 1800flowers.com and it really hit home with me. I hope it does the same for you as it has done for me.

By Geoff Williams at Entrepreneur.com

When you're a small-business owner yearning to be big, it's easy to get discouraged--especially if you compare yourself to the bigger companies that are already successful. But it's useful--for your morale, your sanity and your strategizing--to remember that most big businesses were once small, too.

So in that spirit, we decided to seek out Jim McCann, founder of 1-800Flowers.com, who symbolizes the idea of starting from an acorn and turning into a tree.

On his ubiquitous TV commercials, McCann may seem more like a spokesperson than someone unafraid to dig his hands in the entrepreneurial dirt--but that's exactly what McCann, 56, does every day and has, ever since opening his first flower store in New York City in 1976. Back then, it was called Flora Plenty, and McCann didn't even have a 1-800 number.

So if your business seems like a tiny acorn, how can you make it grow into a big, beautiful--rose bush? (Look, we wanted to go with oak tree, but that wouldn't have fit in with an article about the flower business.) McCann doesn't claim to know the secret, but looking back on how he did it, he does have some advice.

"Fire yourself right away, so you can hire people and focus on doing the things that you can do," McCann says. When he opened his flower shop, he was running a nonprofit for at-risk teenage boys, and he decided that he and his family would be better off financially if he kept his day job. So he hired someone to work at the store during the work days, and then from 9 p.m. to midnight, and during the weekends, he spent his time at Flora Plenty.

"My wife called these 'death-defying hours,' " McCann says."But it turned out to be good that I wasn't the only person in the shop." McCann says these hours forced him to work on the systems and processes of the business, not just run the store.

"Too often, you see entrepreneurs get hung up on doing the best job that they can, instead of creating an environment where their employees can do better," McCann says. "It was an accidental lesson."

Risk is part of being in business. Keeping his day job at the nonprofit and starting another business minimized his risk. But after 10 years, when McCann had about 15 stores throughout New York City, he took a much bigger gamble. It was, McCann says, his riskiest move in the history of his business. He bought the name 1-800 Flowers from another entrepreneur who hadn't been successful in owning the number.

"I found myself $7 million in debt, without realizing that it really was a colossally stupid deal," McCann says.

"But the good news was that Chris [his younger brother] had joined the company, and we paid down the debt over the next five years, and while it was a stupid deal, it was also the best thing we ever could have done."

It goes to show that taking a risk is a part of growing a business, but it needs to be a calculated one.

"You can be creative in your business without having a creative bone in your body," McCann says. He offers an example how years ago, he created a program called Fresh Rewards, where if you bought nine bouquets, that 10th one was free.

"People get a kick out of getting a free bouquet, and I remember people said that'll never work; nobody's going to use the card," McCann says. Of course, these rewards coupons are prevalent everywhere now.

McCann got the idea after walking into Dunkin' Donuts and buying some tea and a donut with his own loyalty card. He thought: How is this shaping my behavior?

"I'll look to other categories and industries and see if it's something I can try in my category," McCann says. "It's always helpful when you get three or four trade magazines from another industry, and look at the stories and their issues and think, 'How can I adapt that to my world?' Let someone else do the creative thinking for you."

Use paranoia as a business strategy.

McCann attributes his paranoia to Andy Grove's book, Only the Paranoid Survive. It compelled him and his brother to pay off their debt promptly and splurge on creating a website when the internet started getting popular.

"Staying paranoid is a good thing," asserts McCann, who mentions that recently, he had a meeting cancelled and used that time to rework a list he has of technology projects and plans for the company.

"I'm feeling like we're in a 1990 re-do actually," says McCann, who notes the next step is mobile technology. "We're in the business of helping people express themselves and connect, and we do that with floral and other gifts, by helping them act on their thoughtfulness. So if we can help them with mobile technology act more frequently on those thoughtful ideas, it's better for them, it's better for the people they're giving the gifts to, and it's good for us as a florist."

Who Cares About Marketing!

About a few years ago, I was speaking with a fellow network marketer and he mentioned to me, "My product does all the work for me, it sells itself. Who cares about marketing?" I couldn't believe he had said this and a part of me was curious because he's seemed to be doing pretty well and successful. Also, he's been with the same network marketing company for sometime now. I had to find out.

Well, I dug deeper and asked him, "How can you possibly be successful just by your product selling itself. That's impossible." That's when he went into great detail why he said that and believes that. He didn't mean that he had a product and it had done all the work for him making him loads of money. No! But, his product was selling itself because he had a system.

Also, he said he didn't care about marketing. But in fact, he refers his entire system as marketing. He figures out how to build systems and integrates them, for all areas of his company. For him, his system is the secret to his success.

So, a year goes by and decided to give him a call to see how his business was doing. And to my surprise he said, "I've improved by business by 50%." Now, there was a part of me, that I would hate to admit, that was hoping he was going to tell me had thrown in the towel. But, I was wrong.

Why was his business doing better than ever? His system was running his business. It taught him how to market, when to market, and how to measure the performance of his marketing efforts. He even provided his system to all of his downline.

When had done that, he found himself having more time to concentrate on other areas of his business. His business was practically running on autopilot.

That's all I needed to hear. I was convinced. Since then I've built my own system and have supplied to many network marketers for free just to see if what I had built would work just like it had for me. And you know what, it did!

This is when I decided to release "Building Your M.L.M Business System" to the public. If you would like to find out more about it visit http://MaverickBusinessBuilders.com. Here is the video I created for it.

It's All About Attitude

Todays article comes from Success Magazine about 'attitude.' This is an exceptional article written by Paul Meyer. When I first heard about having a good attitude and why it matters, from that minute on, I decided to run my life differently. Hopefully this article will do the same for you.

Do you have a good attitude?

-or-

Do you have a bad attitude?

http://www.successmagazine.com/article?articleId=278&taxonomyId=23

by Paul J Meyer

As a young man, I knew in my heart that I would not do manual labor for the rest of my life. On the inside I knew I was different than those around me, and over time, that belief became my reality. It’s been my experience that your outward existence will inevitably match what the heart and mind have already decided to do or be. Each of us has an overall pattern of thinking that is either positive or negative. The pattern you choose affects every aspect of your life. First of all, your basic attitude affects your belief in your potential for success. A negative attitude causes you to doubt your ability to achieve, while belief in your potential makes you willing to take the necessary action for success.

A positive attitude will also allow you to view challenges as opportunities rather than threats. People with negative attitudes think, “I can’t…” or “I doubt…” In contrast, each time you act from a positive attitude, your self-confidence is enhanced, your ability to achieve is proven, and you know you can succeed.

Finally, people who have a negative attitude have buried the ability to see opportunity. A positive attitude opens your eyes to so many opportunities that your challenge becomes which opportunity to choose.

Who You Are

Attitude gives us the power to become who we want to become, and determines who others think we are. Who you are is not determined by how you look, where you live, or who your parents were. Who you are is a function of specific choices that you have made. You are where you are and what you are because of the dominating thoughts in your mind. After all, as a man “thinks in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs 23:7). We are what we think we are—not what we appear to be on the outside. An absolutely essential ingredient for success is a positive selfimage. The world operates on the basis of the law of attraction: what you are and what you think will attract corresponding conditions. If you have a negative self-image, you attract negative results. If your selfimage is positive, you attract positive results. This may appear simplistic, but it is absolutely true.

Your mental picture of yourself determines the measure of confidence you bring to using your potential and working toward your goals. Psychologists estimate we use less than a third of our actual potential. By increasing your potential even slightly, you can make a sizable improvement in your effectiveness.

The Hidden Good

Regardless of external circumstances, beginning at an early age everyone is insulted, left out, taken advantage of, and discounted by others. And to add to the burden, uncontrollable, negative events naturally happen in life as well. However, when you make the decision to view your world with an attitude of gratitude, you are training yourself to focus on the good in life. Of the 100 companies I’ve started since the age of 19, 65 percent have not survived. They could be called “failures,” but with my positive attitude, I’ve never considered that I’ve failed at anything. These “failures” were only temporary setbacks and I learned to be grateful for each one because they all taught me something invaluable about myself. I know that in every adversity there is a seed of equivalent or greater benefit if I believe it, look for it, and work for it.

Goal-Oriented Attitude

Setting goals is vital to successfully achieving your improvement and personal development plans. It is the key to all fulfillment and achievement. Confidence, determination and innate personality traits contribute to success; but they all come into focus through goal-setting.

Probably 75 percent of my personal success has come through setting goals. (The other 25 percent is a combination of focus, desire, preparation and hard work.) If I’m not making the progress I would like to make and am capable of making, it is simply because my goals are not clearly defined.

There is something almost mystical about setting a resolute goal after you have developed a plan and set a deadline for its attainment. Such a goal produces a burning desire, the necessary self-confidence and the determination to follow through. Having a wild imagination is one thing, but being very disciplined and organized makes you different from the rest. It is common to dream, but rare to follow through and see dreams realized. Goal-setting is simply writing down your dreams, crystallizing your thinking and then developing a plan with a deadline for its attainment.

Along the way, you will face obstacles, but overcoming adversities and temporary defeats will make you stronger. When you reach your goal you will have accomplished much more than you set out to do. When I first started in the insurance business, my goal was to write a million dollars worth of business, but I only made one sale out of 14 initial presentations. My highest monthly income during the first nine months was $87. But I believed in my goal and never wavered from it.

Eventually I hit the million dollar mark and the year after that, sold almost four million!

A Worry-Free Attitude

More damage is created by worrying than the actual manifestation of whatever it is you’re worried about. This is because more than 90 percent of all worries never come to pass.

Are You A Work In Process?

With all of the downsizing occurring in Corporate America, increasing cost of gasoline, and the mortgage fiasco, how can one not worry as to what is in store for their future.

Well, there are no guarantees in life and to say where you will be in five years, no one will know for sure.

Unless, you are a work in process!

What are you doing today to prepare yourself for tomorrow? Are you increasing your value? Are you sharing what you know with others? Do you have a plan to prepare for the uncertain moments that occur in one's life?

If you haven't thought these elements of your life through, perhaps you should. By becoming a work in process, you are making dramatic improvements to your life and professional career. You are never standing still. You are always doing. For example, let's say in your personal life you have a difficult time with organization. Well, what can you do to fix this? Do you hire an organizational consultant? Do you read all about organization? Whatever you choose to do, what's important is that you accept the dilemma, and work on changing your situation. When you decide to do this, this is when good changes happen.

So, what's the value in improving? By constantly improving yourself, you demonstrate then when you face a situation, you are able to overcome it. Just like you did with the organization issue. You accepted the problem by facing it head-on, and came up with a solution. You didn't throw your hands up in the air and agreed to failure. No, you were determined to come out of the situation smelling like a rose.

A true professional knows that in life we are faced with adversities, but what makes them different is they do something about it to change their situation for the better. Professionals that live like this are successful in their work and with their personal life. Can you imagine if the rest of the world was faced with adversities, and decided to stand still? Life as we know it would come to an end. Nothing would ever change. Nothing would ever improve. All that would happen is absolutely nothing.

So many people decide to sit back, wait, and watch their life fly by. For me, as well as for many other successful people, we do not sit back and wait for anything. We enjoy the 'doing part' of living our lives and consider everyday a true blessing. We are always improving ourselves. We are always helping others. We live our lives in expectancy. We understand what we put into our life we will get back tenfold.

Make changes in your life and when you are faced with a situation, no matter how difficult it may seem, deal with it head first. This is not easy to do, but it will save you from future frustrations. It is well worth dealing with it right away.

If you are not a work in process, don't worry. Just make the change so you are a work in process. Do you have a situation that you are afraid of the end result? This is your opportunity to overcome your dilemma and deal with it head-on.

The next time you are faced with a situation, deal with it and become a work in process.

Can I Be Successful?

If you're a determined, career oriented professional, then I'm sure you've thought of this question once or twice before. How did you answer it?

Has your past accomplishments shown that you can be a success?

Earl Nightingale had discovered the following definition of success. This definition couldn't have been more right on.

--- "Success is the progressive realization of a worthy goal." ---

It simply means, anyone working towards the accomplishment of a goal is a successful person.

You may or may not think of yourself as a success or one that hasn't been successful, but I assure you. You have been or still are successful.

Did you get that job you wanted? You are successful..

Did you buy that car you wanted? You are successful..

Did you buy your home? You are successful...

You see, we are all successful, but most tend to concentrate on their failures instead. Failures are good, but they are to be treated as learning experiences, that's it! Whatever you learned from your failure, you make sure not do it again.

Some tend to think that success is determined by how much you money make. This is not the case and based on the definition nowhere is it mentioned about money. Well, money is important, but that's a goal in itself. Isn't it?

So, what can you do to be more success-oriented?

Try the following approaches:

Acknowledge when you are successful. - When you find yourself meeting a goal, stand up and declare, "I am successful." You don't necessarily have to use those words, but what is important is that you reward yourself with something very simple as a thought or a tangible item.

Detach from your failure mentality. - When you find yourself meeting failure head on, stand up and declare that, "I'm grateful to have discovered that this is not working, but I will not result to failure. I am successful." Break this cycle of failure by interrupting what has happened and turn it into something you've learned from it.

These approaches, as corny as they might sound will get you on the fast track of constantly thinking like a successful individual.

If you think you're not successful, YOUR WRONG!

Nip Distraction in the Butt

How many times do you find yourself getting distracted from what you are trying to accomplish?

How do you not let interruptions affect you?

With today's working mentality of multitasking, let's face it, multitasking is a distraction. It distracts us from thoroughly, and effectively completing one task.

So that I don't upset our pro-multitaskers, this doesn't mean multitasking is bad or doesn't work, it just means we need to master how to effectively manage multiple tasks at once.

One way to nip distraction in the butt is to learn how to say 'no' to people. However, if you find that you have a lull in between your work and nothing to go onto, then feel free to multitask. Otherwise, put your time and effort to completing one task at a time.

Another way to nip distraction in the butt is to learn how to prioritize. If you find yourself being interrupted and it has nothing to do with what you are presently working on, then once again, say 'no'. Politely tell that person that you are busy working on something very important and as soon as you are done, you will give them your undivided attention. But, for now, your primary goal is to complete one task at a time.

Let's get back to prioritizing...If you are given or have come up with 10 tasks, figure out which of the 10 are the most important to do first. Then, take the top of 5 of the 10, and prioritize which of the 5 is the most important.

Work on your list by starting at #1 . Once again, only allow yourself to multitask if it pertains to what you are trying to accomplish or if you are dependent on someone else completing a portion of the overall task. Some may beg to differ and say that's not mutlitasking if it has something to do with what you are trying to accomplish.

I disagree!

If you are interrupted and asked to do something else, regardless if it is related, that's multitasking.

So, if you find yourself constantly being distracted, nip distraction in the butt by saying 'no' and learning how to prioritize. This may not seem like an effective way, but there have been studies done that says ineffective multitasking contributes to being counterproductive.

According to a CNN.com article it states...

"Multitasking is a managerial buzz-concept these days, a post-layoff corporate assumption that the few can be made to do the work of many. But newly released results of scientific studies in multitasking indicate that carrying on several duties at once may, in fact, reduce productivity, not increase it."

So, there you have it, stay your ground and nip distraction in the butt and become a master in managing your tasks.

Increase Your Value

What can you do today that can double your income...attract others to you...and increase your effectiveness?

Increase your value!

A first place to start is, what do you know?

Whatever your area of expertise is, learn all you can about your professional. Become extremely familiar with the latest techniques and technology used by industry experts. You can get upto speed with your industry by attending local seminars hosted by industry experts or read books and publications for your industry. Everything you may learn may not be of value to you, but take a nugget here and there of what you do find worthy of having and implement it. This is the foundation for increasing your value.

The second place is, who do you know?

Seek out the experts in your industry. Find out what these experts are doing. How have they improved? What's their secret? Perhaps what they will share with you can be another nugget to add to your collection. Always been out on the prowl looking for someone who can help you. This is the building blocks for increasing your value.

The final place is, when do you know enough is enough?

The fact of the matter is, you will never know enough. There is so much out there that there isn't enough time in the world to know everything. Especially, because in some cases you may not even consider some of the techniques as being viable for you. So, that is why you need to be on a path of continuous learning. This is the icy on the cake for increasing your value, never stop learning.

When you increase your value, you become an expert. An expert that becomes sought out. An expert that is trustworthy. An expert that is effective. And, an expert that is a leader.

These values put you in charge. In charge of your life and career. You will find yourself achieving what you once thought was impossible, now something totally doable.

You choose what to do, when to do it, and how to do it.

In return you increase your income, effectiveness, and knowledge.

You've Got Time On Your Hands

Most people admit that they would love to have more time in the day in order to get things done. But, we all know that is impossible. No matter who we are, we all have the same amount of time as everyone else, 24 hours in one day. No more and no less.

But, why is that some people are able to get more things done?

Is one person better than another person?

No!

Or, does one person understand time management by using a priority system?

Yes!!!!

Managing your time the right way is nothing more than getting the important things done first.

Rather than being overwhelmed with all of the things you have to get done and getting frustrated, take control of your time by wisely making out a list of the tasks you need to complete.

Once you have all of your tasks, prioritize them into a top 5 list. When considering which ones should take priority over the other, consider which one will give you the biggest bang for your buck. So, now you have the priority list from #1 task to get done all the way through #5. When you have finished the top 5 on your list then you can tackle the other outstanding tasks.

Do this for each and every day. Once you become a master at prioritizing, then you won't have to write it out, as it will become automatic for you. However, even the most successful people still need to write it out. They feel just by writing it out, it makes the tasks feel real, and is holding them accountable to completing them. This is my approach, writing them out helps out big time.

So by taking control of your day, you'll see that you've got time on your hands. By the end of your day, you'll feel that you finished the things you needed to get done and have more time to do other things. You'll also feel a sense of accomplishment as your mark each one complete.

Oh yeah, before I forget, if you find yourself unable to complete the tasks you assigned for the one day, continue on the same list the next day until you are done. Then start your new list.

Give it a try, what do you have to lose other than time.

Quit Your Day Job!

We see it on the news every day...

"Thousands of people are losing their jobs..."

"The mortgage industry meltdown..."

"The economy is in a recession..."

You can continue to stress about losing your job, your home, and any hope of living the life you really want...

...Or...

You can start towards the path to true financial wealth...

Start by changing what it is you do in your current business or your line of work.
And, if you're like many business professionals that are not satisfied with their current business or line of work, then perhaps it's time for expiration and to move on to something new. Don't live your life being unhappy and miserable. Find something that you will enjoy.

Determine ways that you can accelerate your career. Despite the current economy, you are in charge of your destiny and how much you make, not them! Review what you are doing today and how you can be of better service. Brainstorm for about one hour per day on what you can improve on and write them down.

Implement every single idea you come up with. Make sure to give your idea a good amount of time before you give up on it. Only then, should you move on to the next idea.

Set a goal to increase your income by 10% of what you made the previous year. Plan this out for five years. You will be amazed that reaching that 10% increase won't be very difficult to achieve after all.

Get yourself into this mindset and stop thinking of what you do as your job. In other words, quit your day job and start treating your job like you're the CEO of the company.

Be in charge of your profession and watch your income rise despite all the naysayers.

Creating Goals to Maximize Your Success

We all know that a goal is a result towards which your effort is directed. But, do you know how important goals really are to your success?

This will be one of the most important posts that you will read in order to achieve mass amounts of success.

If you've ever worked for someone or a company, then you are probably very familiar with goals and their purpose for being set. But, have you ever created and set your own goal? If you have, congratulations. If not, then creating goals can bring you success.

Let me explain why...

The most important aspect about a goal is it must be very clear and as specific as possible. Also, remember the purpose of your goal is you want success. Oh yeah, you will get success once your goal is reached.

Breakdown your goal into the following different components:

1. Objective
2. How
3. Date

Let me give you an example that best illustrates this.

For example, I've had this dream of mine to travel into outer-space with NASA astronauts before my 40th birthday.

My goal should read as such, "I will travel to outer-space with the NASA program by 12-31-2015."

Travel to outer-space is my objective...with the NASA program is the how...by 12-31-2015 is the date.

Also, take notice of the words I chose, like "will". I didn't use "dream," "wish," or "would like to." I used "will" because when you use the word "will", it seems more true to your subconscious mind.

By setting a goal as specific as possible and by setting a date which you feel is attainable, you instantly set yourself up for success.

Now, just because you wrote it down doesn't mean that you never look at it. Because that will get you no where. You must refer to this goal very often and plan to meet that goal by doing something everyday.

Did you get that last part?

That's the biggest secret to creating goals to maximize your success. "Plan to meet that goal by doing something everyday." Everyday you do something and it doesn't matter how much you do, just as long as you are doing something to meet that goal.

Finding the 'Diamond in the Ruff'

You've been working on that customer of yours for some time now and they just don't seem to be interested in what you have to offer.

Are they a diamond in the ruff?

Or, are they a waste of your time?

Well, it all depends now doesn't it...It depends what you do to service the customer...It depends how you can handle them. They could be that 'diamond in the ruff' if you provide them with that missing bit of information they are in search of. Otherwise, if you don't take the right approach it can be a waste of yours and their time.

How do you know what they truly want?

How do you turn that lump of coal, you call a customer, into a diamond?

As Earl Nightingale once said, "...serve the customer..." that's how. Serve more, serve better and serve now.

You're the professional and you must demonstrate that to the customer by focusing your attention on them throughout your presentation. Be prepared. Show them respect. Listen to them. And ,answer their questions when asked. You know, the customer can careless what you have to offer, unless you serve them by giving them what they need, not what they want. Only then will that need turn into a want. That want means closing the deal, success.

Always get yourself in the right frame of mind that you are providing by far the best service one can ever ask for. If you show them that you are aware of their needs, they will keep coming back to you.

Why?

Because you provided them a unique experience that they can get use to having. Treat your customers the way you would want to be treated and all of your customers would instantly be 'diamonds in the ruff'.

I can't...I can't

How many times have you heard "I can't"?

Either a customer of yours or a potential client, you've heard these words used before. They go something like this...

"I can't afford it right now..."

"I can't help you..."

"I can't figure this out..."

It seems more and more people are limiting themselves. By them saying they can't they are basically throwing up their arms.

They are making excuses.

That's all can't is.

It's an excuse!

Rather than find a way to make something happen, they say "I can't". Saying "I can't" is so much easier, but is it really? I would disagree. I'll explain in just a minute.

There can be many reasons for saying the "I can't" words. It can be fear of change...lack of interest...denial...feeling of not being in control. Whatever the reasons could be, saying and living the "I can't" mentality can truly affect you.

Try this exercise out the next time your customer or potential client says "I can't":

1. Probe that person and find out why they are telling you they can't. Do this for every time they say those words.
2. Anytime someone says they can't, ask them, "Well, how can you?"
3. Every time you propose a question, don't use the words 'can'. Instead replace it with 'will'.

Not only will you get your mind off limiting yourself or theirs, you will also help the client and yourself understand their real concern. Hopefully for your sake, it means getting a new client or getting a customer to agree to do something that they are capable of doing.

So, saying "I can't" is easy but it does affect your life.

The Fear of Rejection...Time to Overcome it

Do you fear rejection?

Are you afraid of what might be said about you or your business?

The fear of rejection is very normal for most people. In fact, a lot of people are afraid to go outside of their comfort zone because they are afraid of what might happen.

Why do some people fear rejection?

Were they born with this?

Was this something learned?

The fear of rejection is actually a learned behavior that you've either experienced by your parents, friends, coaches, etc. while you were growing up. All it took was one bad experience where you felt it was nearly impossible to overcome. And, if you encountered these situations often, you subconsciously associated these experiences with the fear of rejection. Therefore, you find yourself avoiding going through this pain.

I'm hear to tell you that if you can learn to take rejection with a grain of salt, you will become a stronger person. Brian Tracy once said "Rejection is not personal." That really hit home with me. I realized that since everyone is so bombarded with opportunities, that it's natural for people to reject you. In fact, those that do reject you will eventually become a customer of yours.

Do you think a waiter or waitress fears rejection while working at a restaurant? I don't think so! How many times do you think they were told no to every time they asked if a customer wants a coffee refill? It happens all of the time. Those waiters and waitresses realized to not take 'No' personal, but that they should ask often.

Overcome your fear of rejection by accepting it and determine what is the real reason. Without rejections, how would we ever know what people like or dislike. Can you imagine everyone accepting what you had to offer? That would be great, but in reality it won't happen. Not everyone will like what you have to offer and that's alright.
